Pittsburgh's Port Authority partnered with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in an extensive advertising campaign that will for the first time wrap light rail vehicles with ads. Per a $1.1 million contract, ads will be displayed on 40 light rail vehicles as well as 207 buses for six months. The campaign, the single biggest advertising partnership in Port Authority history, will positively impact operating revenue in Fiscal Year 2007 — a time when public transportation in Pennsylvania faces an acute funding crisis. Under terms of the agreement, which will wrap both sides of the light rail vehicles (LRVs) and one side of the buses, UPMC’s vinyl ads will be displayed throughout Port Authority’s 775-square mile service area on more than half the rail fleet and 20 percent of the bus fleet.
