Seattle lawmakers propose $30 congestion fee
A state representative has gotten 30 co-sponsors for a bill that would allow transit agencies to impose a "congestion reduction charge" per year on car-tabs in three area counties. If approved, the bill could bring in an estimated $38 million a year for King County Metro.
SEATTLE — State representative Marko Liias (D-Edmonds) lined up 30 co-sponsors for House Bill 1536, allowing transit agencies to impose a "congestion reduction charge" of $30 per year on car-tabs in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, The Seattle Times reports.
If approved, the fees could be collected on 2012 and 2013 renewals. The charge is designed to bolster agencies whose sales taxes dipped in the "Great Recession" — bringing in an estimated $38 million a year for King County Metro. For the full story, click here.
