BOSTON — Leaders on transportation policy in the Massachusetts Senate are rejecting Gov. Charlie Baker's call for a fiscal management control board to take over operations of the MBTA, MassLive.com reported.

"The control board would create a second bureaucracy and would separate the MBTA from what is the currently the Department of Transportation," said Sen. Thomas McGee, D-Lynn, chairman of the Joint Committee on Transportation, according to the report.
Baker spokesman Tim Buckley said in a statement, "The administration looks forward to reviewing the proposal, but the governor maintains that if nothing changes, then nothing will change at the MBTA and that his comprehensive plan, developed alongside national transportation leaders, is the best way to restore the people's transit system after this winter's complete breakdown."
