Beginning March 1, Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority’s (Metro)’s new fare boxes will accept new 30-day rolling passes, which will replace current calendar-month-only passes.

The new passes provide greater flexibility by allowing the customer to choose when to start the 30-day pass period by simply inserting the pass into the fare box on the bus. For example, if the customer activates a 30-day rolling pass on March 5, it will be good until April 3.

The new 30-day rolling passes are available for the same zones and at the same prices as the current monthly passes.

Late last year, Metro installed new fare boxes on all of its buses, thanks to federal funding for the project. The new fare boxes replaced 17-year-old technology.

Metro’s new fare boxes will enable new payment options, beginning this summer:

•    Go SMART “tap & go” smart cards that can be re-loaded or re-used.

•    Pre-paid $10, $20 or $50 stored value cards.

Metro is also considering other pass options to meet customers’ needs.
