On July 20, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and Toronto Police Service will launch their annual streetcar safety campaign, “For Safety’s Sake, Take Time to Check.”
TTC Chair Adam Giambrone and Toronto Police Service Staff Sergeant Andy Norrie will talk about the safest way to board and exit streetcars, stroller safety and some of the unsafe behaviors motorists practice, such as cutting off transit vehicles and the impact that has on passengers.
The TTC moves 470 million people every year – approximately 1.5 million riders every weekday. The TTC is the third largest public transit system in North America, servicing approximately 4.5 million people in the Greater Toronto Area, with a network of subways, streetcars, buses, and a specialized service, Wheel-Trans, for people who require accessible transportation.
The region’s fixed-route system finished out the year with a total of 373.5 million rides. Adding 12.3 million rides over 2024 represents an increase that is equal to the annual transit ridership of Kansas City.
