Transportation security chief resigns
John Magaw will be replaced by Adm. James Loy, who was named deputy undersecretary for transportation security and COO of the Transportation Security Administration.
John Magaw, head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), submitted a letter of resignation to the White House citing poor health as the reason for his decision. No official reason was given for his departure, but an administration official with knowledge of the situation said Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta asked him to leave, reported The Associated Press. The news service also reported the TSA official as saying that some lawmakers and airport officials felt Magaw didn't respond to their concerns and wasn't willing to work with them, prompting Mineta to make the move. Magaw will be replaced by Admiral James Loy, who recently retired as commandant of the Coast Guard and was named deputy undersecretary for transportation security and chief operating officer of the TSA.
