WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last week, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced it shut down 52 motorcoach operations (FMCSA) it deemed unsafe during its eight-month effort known as Operation Quick Strike. NBC5 Chicago reported that among those operators was Illini Tours, which offers regular daily transport for students from the University of Illinois and Illinois State University to a variety of locations in Chicago and its suburbs.

Meanwhile, the Clarion Ledger reported that Carbo Limo, which was contracted by the University of Mississippi to provide free rides through its Rebel Ride program and one of the operations shut down by the FMCSA, suspended itself from providing service at the university in October for unknown reasons. Although deemed unsafe by the FMCSA, Carbo Limo’s Rebel Ride services was accident free since it began running in 2003, according to officials.
