Long Island, N.Y.’s Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) bus and paratransit system, managed and operated by Transdev, just enhanced its GoMobile smartphone transit application. With this exciting new feature, NICE bus passengers can now receive predictive real-time bus arrival information on their smartphones.
Launched in June of 2014, the GoMobile application has now been downloaded by more than 30,000 customers.
“This project is one of several recent technology initiatives at NICE bus which will help transform the experience of riding transit in Nassau County,” said Michael Setzer, CEO of NICE. “As the first bus-only, mobile ticketing application in the U.S., the popular GoMobile app continues to help us lead the way in technology to improve passenger convenience.”
Passengers will find the real-time feature by selecting the “My Bus” button on their GoMobile app, which automatically pinpoints and displays customer location along with all the closest routes and arrival times on an easy-to-read digital map.
In addition to providing information on NICE bus arrivals in Nassau County, GoMobile now offers a seamless and multi-modal solution to customers for arrivals of all modes of transit in the greater NY area. This is very important to the 100,000 daily NICE bus passengers, many of whom commute to and from New York City.
The app enables passengers to purchase tickets in seconds, anytime and anywhere, without searching for change or a MetroCard. In addition to now knowing the actual arrival time of a NICE bus, individuals can easily navigate the GoMobile app to purchase tickets for future use, find out about delays, view possible routes, plan a trip and see the time needed to walk to a bus stop.
Various icons within the app help customers to save and display favorite routes, view schedules, and set reminder alarms for future bus departures. App users can view a map of the entire route with stop locations and approaching bus locations along with departure times. Departure times can be customized for planned trips.
GoMobile’s mobile ticketing functionality is powered by Masabi, and provides an end-to-end mobile ticketing and fare collection system for passengers. The real-time arrival notification function is powered by Transit App and is linked directly from the GoMobile app. GoMobile is available for both Android and IOS as a free download.
