Tennessee’s CARTA Partners with Citymapper
The Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) announced a new partnership with Citymapper to facilitate the navigation of the city for residents and visitors.
The partnership integrates CARTA’s services into Citymapper’s mobile app, a comprehensive tool for trip planning, real-time travel updates, booking, and fare payments.
Citymapper is now live in Chattanooga. It provides seamless trip planning for fixed-route buses, a shuttle system, CARTA GO on-demand transit, and Bike Chattanooga—all in a single app.
In addition to improving rider convenience, the partnership will provide CARTA with anonymized insights to better understand how people use transit in Chattanooga. This data will help inform future service planning, infrastructure investments, and operational improvements, supporting CARTA’s broader vision for a rider-centric transit system.
WSP Joint Venture to Help Guide San Francisco Train Control Upgrade
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) selected the WSP-PGH Wong Joint Venture (JV) to provide crucial program management support to modernize the city’s Muni Metro system.
The Train Control Upgrade Project (TCUP) will design and install a new communications-based train control (CBTC) system for Muni Metro trains throughout San Francisco’s 71-mile rail network. The modern CBTC technology will enhance automatic train control in the subway and extend to on-street Metro service, reducing travel and wait times, expanding Muni Metro’s capacity by up to 20%, and promoting reliability with fewer system failures.
WSP has partnered with engineering and architecture consulting firm PGH Wong to provide consulting services for the project's life, from initiation to post-delivery support.
The JV’s scope of services includes supporting program management; design engineering, compliance, and construction, including systems engineering and integration, testing, and commissioning; and post-delivery maintenance support. Hitachi Rail GTS USA will supply the CBTC system for the project’s nine-year design and delivery schedule, with the new system projected to enter passenger service from 2028 to 2034.
Additionally, the WSP-PGH Wong JV will help the SFMTA enhance its organizational capacity to manage the new CBTC system throughout the project.
