The ACES Mobility Coalition announced that North Carolina’s City of Greensboro and the Greensboro Transit Agency, along with Guident Corp., officially joined the coalition, underscoring their commitment to advancing shared autonomous mobility.

Coalition Executive Director Scott Belcher said adding these two new members highlights the ACES Mobility Coalition’s growing influence.

“Greensboro and Guident both bring expertise and commitment to the shared mobility conversation,” he said. “They join our growing base of public sector members, private industry, and academia, representing a broad cross section of the innovators and leaders who will drive the deployment of ACES technology across the nation.”

Greensboro Poised for Innovation

Greensboro is a fast-growing area attracting new manufacturing jobs in the region, such as JetZero and Toyota’s first battery manufacturing plant in North America. With Greensboro home to nine colleges and universities, the city will be a host for the 2029 FISU World University Summer Games, one of the most significant multi-sport events in the world behind the Olympics.

Greensboro will also serve as a base camp for one of the FIFA World Cup teams when the games come to the US next year. As the City of Greensboro and the Greensboro Transit Agency build upon their transit service to meet future demands, they will be looking toward the deployment of autonomous, shared, and connected transit.

Guident’s AV Tech

Guident was founded in 2019 in Boca Raton, Florida, and quickly emerged as a leader in AV remote monitoring and teleoperation technology.

The firm provides a patented Remote Monitor and Control Center (RMCC) solution that delivers real-time oversight of fleets of Level 4 autonomous shuttles and inspection robots through human-in-the-loop AI systems.

In addition to participating in live pilots, including the cities of West Palm Beach and Boca Raton, the company recently achieved a historic milestone in autonomous mobility by successfully teleoperating an ADASTEC automated electric bus on the campus of Michigan State University (MSU).

The vehicle was remotely driven in near real-time from Guident’s Remote Monitor and Control Center located 1,200 miles away in Boca Raton. The achievement marks the first known instance of long-distance remote control of a full-size automated bus in an operational setting.

ACES Mobility Coalition’s Scott Belcher believes Greensboro and Guident sit perfectly at the nexus of innovation and deployment.

“These organizations are demonstrating how ACES solutions are addressing mobility issues with reliable technology that’s ready to go to work right now,” he said. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Greensboro and Guident to the conversation.”
