A slowdown beginning at the end of April and lasting eight weeks caused about 100 people to be temporarily laid off from Bombardier’s Plattsburgh, N.Y., plant. “We do intend to resume the contracts with those employees,” said Gilles Pagé, director of public affairs and communication at Bombardier. About 77 other employees were reassigned. The layoffs came after several of the company’s R142 subway cars were pulled from revenue service because of braking problems. The plant, which normally produces two cars a day, is now down to one, Pagé said.
