Uber says small-town public transit partnerships 'critical' to its success
Since bringing the ride-hailing service to Innisfil, Ontario, the town's 36,000 residents have take about 25,000 rides.

INNISFIL, Ontario — A rural Canadian town is being heralded as the most recent success story of what happens when ride-hailing companies step in to provide public transportation options, according to a report by Vice’s Motherboard.
Innsifil, Ontario, located near Toronto, didn’t have a public transportation system, so city leaders partnered with Uber to bring subsidized rides to the city’s 36,000 residents in 2017.
Since then, more than 25,000 rides have been taken using the Silicon Valley-based app.
Motherboard reports is part of a much larger trend with smaller, more remote locations that don’t have their own public transportation. Uber currently operates 35 similar partnerships throughout North America.
