TOKYO — According to a new study, “Fatal congestion” could occur in stations near venues for the 2020 Summer Olympics, while major transfer stations and key lines could be paralyzed by overcrowding, reported The Japan Times.
Per data from Chuo University, some 1.3 million spectators might join 8 million regular commuters in the greater Tokyo area, the report said.
Recommended solutions include having commuters stay home during peak Olympic travel hours, with workers taking a day off, working remotely or commuting at different hours — a similar plan was encouraged in London during the 2012 Olympics, reported The Japan Times.
