Since June, nearly 5,500 new commuters registered to participate in the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s (RTC) Club Ride Commuter Services program to help reduce traffic congestion, improve the air quality and ultimately create a more sustainable community.
The new members join the already 26,000 participating Club Ride commuters.
On average, 3,580 riders report their alternative commute trips each month, which has resulted in more than 4.2 million logged miles that Southern Nevadans have either carpooled, rode transit, bicycled or walked to and from work since the beginning of the year. In total, these commuters’ efforts have helped to reduce 41.7 tons of carbon monoxide, which is equivalent to saving 4,241 gallons of gasoline.
Commuter reports also showed a reduction of 6.74% of VOCs (volatile organic compounds), 9.11 tons of nitrogen oxides and 1,624 tons of greenhouse gases within the community. Club Ride works with employers to encourage the use of commute alternatives, such as transit, carpooling, walking and biking.
Employer participation in the Club Ride program is turnkey, as Club Ride’s outreach staff works hard to encourage success — providing carpool match lists, signage for carpool-only parking, hosting on-site transportation fairs, supplying marketing materials and more.
