AECOM Technology Corp. was awarded two passenger rail contracts in India worth approximately $50 million.
The two contracts, which cover work on passenger railways serving the cities of Chennai and Kolkata, will leverage AECOM’s design as well as project and construction management services. AECOM will perform the work on both projects as a part of joint ventures.
The $3-billion Chennai Metro Rail project includes two rail lines spanning approximately 28 miles, 36 stations and a depot. The value of the project to AECOM is expected to be $30 million.
Meanwhile, the $1-billion Kolkata Metro Rail project encompasses work on the Kolkata East-West line covering approximately 11 miles through the city center and 12 stations. AECOM’s value on the project is expected to be $20 million.
Both projects are scheduled for completion in 2015.
The region’s fixed-route system finished out the year with a total of 373.5 million rides. Adding 12.3 million rides over 2024 represents an increase that is equal to the annual transit ridership of Kansas City.
