Alstom to supply 26 regional trains to Germany
The contract represents nearly $156 million (USD) and covers 26 electric propulsion trains, including 21 three-car trains and five four-car trains.
Private German railway operator BeNEX, a subsidiary of public operator Hamburger Hochbahn AG, placed an order with Alstom for 26 Coradia Continental regional trains. The contract represents nearly $156 million (USD) and covers 26 electric propulsion trains, including 21 three-car trains and five four-car trains.
Coradia Continental trains, which are 95 percent recyclable, are characterized by their high degree of modularity, while the length of the coaches, number of doors and the interior design can be adapted to the needs of operators and passengers. A lowered floor and gangways between the coaches facilitate access onto and movement on board the train, particularly for people with reduced mobility.
The trains will be put into service in the Regensburg-Donauthalbahn regional network in late 2010. All of the trains will be manufactured at Alstom's site in Salzgitter, Germany.
