Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen (LNVG), the German rail authority for regional traffic, placed an order with Alstom Transport for 28 Coradia Lint regional trains, for a total amount of approximately $107.5 million.

Diesel-engined vehicles made up of two coaches, Coradia Lint trains can operate at speeds of up to 74.5 mph. Each train can transport up to 129 passengers. The continuous low floor, mobile pallets located at the entrance to the trains and gangways between the coaches make access and getting around on board easier, particularly for people with reduced mobility.

The trains are also equipped with tactile pictograms for the partially sighted, as well as toilets arranged for passengers with disabilities. The trains are also 95 percent recyclable and equipped with particle filters.

The trains will serve Lower Saxony and will start commercial service in December 2011.
