Alstom wins $52M French tram contract
The Citadis units are 98 percent recyclable, but their composite materials and improved traction system mean they consume 10 percent less energy than a traditional tram, according to the company.
France's Metropolitan Community of Le Havre (CODAH) chose Alstom to supply 20 Citadis tramsets for its first tramline. The contract is worth a total of approximately $52 million.
Alstom's Citadis trams, which feature platform-height floors, air conditioning, a video-surveillance system, and onboard audio and visual information, are designed to accommodate more than 200 passengers.
The units are 98 percent recyclable, but their composite materials and improved traction system mean they consume 10 percent less energy than a traditional tram, according to Alstom.
To date, a total of 1,382 Citadis trams have been ordered by 33 cities around the world, while an additional 60 have tramway projects in the pipeline.
