Amtrak and AT&T Wireless began offering high-speed wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) service Wednesday in six of the railroad's busiest train stations in the Northeast Corridor. The new Wi-Fi service, which follows an agreement announced earlier this year, represents one of the largest single communications upgrades to the public rail system in the region. Anyone with a working Wi-Fi-enabled laptop or PDA (personal digital assistant) can access the system. Existing AT&T Wireless customers can enter their user credentials to go online. Non-AT&T customers can pay $9.99 to connect to the service as often as they like, from a single location, within a 24-hour period using a credit card.
