OAKLAND, Calif. — Sixteen passengers suffered minor injuries after an Amtrak train, traveling 15 mph to 20 mph, ran a red signal and hit a stopped Amtrak train head-on, authorities told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Authorities said about 150 people were onboard the trains, which were on the same track and headed in opposite directions. Most of the 16 passengers and employees who were hurt were on the stopped train. The crash is the second involving an Amtrak train in the East Bay to result in injuries over the past two weeks.
