Apollo Video Technology has been selected by Omaha, Neb.’s Metro Area Transit (MAT) to equip the agency’s 170 buses with five-camera video and audio surveillance systems.

The RoadRunner system will enable transit officials to monitor video both inside and outside paratransit and fixed-route buses and view the speeds and routes of vehicles on an interactive map. The iSM (Interactive Speed and Mapping) interface, a feature of the RoadRunner system, combines graphical route information with vehicle GPS data and live and historical video feeds.

Apollo Video will also be providing cellular wireless equipment that will allow MAT to view live video of their bus fleet from various locations throughout Omaha.

The contract, worth nearly $1 million, was awarded through an FTA section 5309 grant. Federal funding will account for 80 percent of the contract, while the additional 20 percent will be paid for by MAT. Installation is scheduled to begin in January of 2009.
