Boise (Idaho) State University is promoting its month-long "One Less Car" campaign, encouraging students, faculty and staff to take proactive measures to reduce the university's carbon footprint.
The "One Less Car" campaign runs from April 5 to May 7 for students and May 1 to 31 for employees.
The campaign is a friendly competition between students and employees, sponsored by the Transportation and Parking department. The goal is to get as many campus commuters as possible to carpool, ride the ValleyRide bus (a service of Valley Regional Transit), bike, walk or utilize some other form of transportation beyond a single occupant vehicle for an entire month.
In addition to the incentives of cleaner air, reducing traffic and saving money, participants may enter a drawing for various prizes. The university has made available a calendar for participants to record their alternative transportation efforts and turn in to the Transportation and Parking department to be eligible to win prizes.
Originally introduced in 2023 as the Bus Line Redesign, the effort has evolved into a more targeted update that maintains familiar routes while improving reliability, frequency, evening and weekend service, and connections across Allegheny County.
