Bombardier Transportation was selected by Kung Sing Engineering Corp., a Taiwanese construction company, to supply the electrical and mechanical portion of a 9.3-mile rapid transit system, including 202 vehicles, for the Neihu Line, an extension to the existing Muha Line in Taipei, Taiwan. Work on the project, valued at nearly $1 billion, will commence upon receipt of the Notice to Proceed, which is expected within the next two months. Bombardier will design and supply all of the electrical and mechanical systems for the 12-station Neihu Line, and will also be responsible for retrofitting the automatic train control system for the Mucha Line, its 102 vehicles and some of the equipment in its existing 12 stations. Bombardier's share of the project is valued at $528 million. Completion of the first six miles of the extension and delivery of 60 vehicles is expected in 2007.
