Bombardier Transportation, as part of a consortium with CAF, was selected by Mexico City's transit authority, Sistema de Transporte Colectivo-Metro (STC), to supply 405 new subway cars for STC's Line 2. The contract will become effective upon receipt of the Notice to Proceed, which is expected within the next few weeks. The total estimated contract is valued at $478 million, with Bombardier's share at $319 million. Delivery of the 45 trainsets -- consisting of nine cars each -- would begin in the fall of 2004 and continue through mid-2006. The cars will operate on STC's Line 2, which carries approximately one million passengers per day. Bombardier Transportation in Mexico would be responsible for the manufacturing, testing and commissioning of 28 trainsets, and for the design and production of 810 bi-motor rubber-tire bogies. The carshells and train designs would be developed jointly with CAF.
