The award-winning NS (Netherlands Railways) Sprinter train, designed and manufactured by the Sprinter LighTTrain Consortium, formed by Bombardier and Siemens, is now being showcased in Athens, Greece.
The Sprinter train is being presented at the newly opened Contemporary Space of The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, the European center for architecture, art, design and urban studies.
The Contemporary Space Athens opens with an inaugural exhibition that honors the best new designs of the world’s foremost designers and manufacturers from Europe, Asia and North America. The opening exhibition showcases all winners of the 2007/2008 Good Design Awards.
The Sprinter trains received the Good Design Award in the transportation category, based on a proven Bombardier-Siemens commuter train design, adapted in close partnership with NS to suit the specific requirements of the Netherlands.
In September 2007, NS ordered 32 four-car and 32 six-car Sprinter electric multiple units (EMUs) in addition to the 2005 base order for 18 four-car and 17 six-car EMUs.
