Bombardier Transportation and its joint venture partners in China announced an order from Shanghai Mass Transit Line 7 Development Co. for 192 MOVIA metro cars (32 six-car trains). The contract was awarded to Bombardier Transportation together with Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles Company Ltd. (CBRC) and Bombardier CPC Propulsion System Co. Ltd. (BCP). Bombardier's share of the contract amounts to some $70 million. The new metro cars will be assembled in China at CBRC production facilities in Changchun. Propulsion equipment for the cars will be manufactured at BCP's production site in Changzhou and Bombardier production facilities in Vasteras, Sweden. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2008 with completion in 2009. The trains will operate on Shanghai's Metro Line 7. The order comes less than six months after Bombardier announced a 306-vehicle contract for Shanghai Metro's Line 9.
