Bombardier to supply more German double-deck trains

Bombardier Transportation will deliver another 21 double-deck coaches to Berlin's Deutsche Bahn (DB) AG.
The order, worth approximately $42 million, is based on a 2003 framework agreement for the delivery of 298 double-deck coaches with an option for a further 300. The newly ordered coaches are intended for DB's south eastern region and are expected to come into service from the end of 2010 onwards. They will add to the current fleet to cope with increasing passenger numbers.
The south eastern region is to receive seven cab cars with 1st and 2nd class compartments, as well as 14 intermediate coaches with 2nd class compartments, all with low-floor entry. Both coach types have multi-purpose compartments with spaces for bicycles, wheelchairs and bulky luggage.
The double-deck coaches will also be equipped with an air-conditioning system, video monitoring, exterior loudspeakers as well as electronic displays for information and entertainment. The coaches will utilize an innovative LED-lighting system that saves energy and has indirect lighting to enhance passenger comfort.
The double-deck coaches are being built at Bombardier's Görlitz plant.
