Bombardier was awarded a contract by New York's Metro-North Railroad (MNR), for the replacement and overhaul of 64 Comet II coaches. The contract is valued at approximately $34 million, with work scheduled to take place between April 2006 and December 2007. The contract also includes an option for the overhaul of 40 additional Comet II coaches. The Comet II coaches were built by Bombardier between 1985 and 1987 and have been in successful revenue service on MNR lines since. Vehicle work will include overhaul of the operator controls, the pneumatic braking system, trucks, HVAC and the door operator system. Bombardier will also install new door controls, new seating arrangements as well as new flooring. New toilet units will also be installed as part of the contract.
