Bombardier wins Montreal contract
Record $381M rail car deal.
Bombardier Transportation received a contract from the Government of Quebec to supply 160 multilevel commuter rail cars to the Agence Metropolitaine de Transport (AMT) in Montreal. The contract consists of a base order of 30 cars and options for 130 additional cars.
The rail cars are configured to operate on AMT’s existing network, and will also be introduced on the future train de l’Est line. The new cars will include higher passenger capacity, each car being equipped with up to 142 ergonomic seats, the ability to accommodate up to 200 passengers, an audio-visual passenger-information system, large side doors located at the intermediate level, and GPS technology to make announcements and notify passengers of emergencies.
The first delivery of the new multilevel cars is planned for the third quarter of 2009.
