Canada's Bombardier Transportation has won a $102 million contract as part of a consortium making and refurbishing rail cars for Swiss Federal Railways. The full $122 million order involving the consortium of Bombardier and French-based Alstom is for the manufacture of 30 IC steering cars and 21 double-deck cars. Sixteen dining cars will also be refurbished. The new steering cars are to be delivered from April 2004 until February 2005 and the double-deck cars from December 2003 until June 2004. Production of the rail cars will take place at Bombardier's plant in Pratteln, Switzerland, where the same type of vehicles has been made since 1996. Bombardier's site in Dunakesi, Hungary, will take part in modernization of the dining cars. Alstom will supply the bogies, or car platforms, from its plant in Newhausen, Switzerland.
