A tram-like BRT vehicle is making the rounds in Washington, D.C., as a potential option to help alleviate local traffic in Northern Virginia and D.C. Area residents are invited to see and ride on the bus, which will be in the region several dates throughout February. The bus has four wide doors and a low floor, and can be operated by an optical guidance system to be docked at a station or steered by a bus operator. In Northern Virginia, there is discussion about the possibility for BRT along the Columbia Pike Corridor and the Jefferson Davis Corridor. In D.C., transportation officials are considering BRT along K Street. Maryland is also looking at BRT to service Veirs Mill Road between the Rockville and Wheaton Metrorail stations.
