Bus driver conviction upheld in deadly Va. crash

RICHMOND, Va. — The AP reported that the Virginia Court of Appeals upheld Sky Express bus driver Kin Yiu Cheung’s convictions for a deadly crash in Virginia in 2011 that killed four riders, rejecting his claims that prosecutors did not prove he demonstrated reckless disregard for human life.
The court said that there was substantial evidence that Cheung knew he was in no condition to drive, including his heavy consumption of energy drinks, his own admission to police that he was sleepy right before the crash and that he fell asleep while driving, according to the news outlet.
The National Transportation Safety Board told the AP that officials had been in the process of shutting down Sky Express when the crash occurred, but had given the carrier an extra 10 days to appeal an unsatisfactory safety rating. For the full story, click here.
