Calgary HandiBus to cease operations due to rising costs
City officials said when they identify another provider to take over the service's 35,000 monthly trips — which could be Calgary Transit — customers should notice no change, including in door-to-door service.

CALGARY, Alberta, Canada — Local transit officials must replace the city’s biggest provider of transportation service for residents with disabilities, after Calgary HandiBus announced Friday it will cease operations next year is no longer financially sustainable as it faces rising costs and an influx of cheaper alternatives, according to company officials the Calgary Herald reported.
City officials said when they identify another provider to take over Calgary HandiBus’ 35,000 monthly trips — which could be Calgary Transit — customers should notice no change, including in door-to-door service, the report said.
But some customers worry that service will deteriorate under a new provider, which is expected to take over in the middle of next year at the earliest and there were also questions about the future of the organization’s 130 to 140 workers, according to the Calgary Herald.
