LOS ANGELES — The proposed California high-speed rail project that would link Northern and Southern California was recently dubbed the “project of the century” because, experts said, it would cross two mountain ranges and a half-dozen earthquake faults, KCRA.com reported.
The first phase of the project is expected to run more than 500 miles between San Francisco and Los Angeles. California hasn't considered a north-south rail link of this scope since the 1870s, when it bored through the Tehachapi Mountains to create the Southern Pacific Railroad.
