ARCADIA, Calif. — A dial-a-ride service originally intended to help seniors get needed transportation has been adopted by students taking rides to after-school programs, and the city is trying to figure out how to correct course, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

While residents who depend on Arcadia Transit service are frequently denied rides, nearly 300 students use the transport daily. Most of the students using Dial-A-Ride come from working class families and rely on the curb-to-curb service to take them from school to after-school programs and then home, the report said. 

“This was never intended as a school bus service and it’s clearly outside of the regulations for receiving the funds,” Councilman Roger Chandler told the Star-News. “Quite frankly, I suppose if we were audited, we would get nicked."
