Twenty Five bus operators for suburban Chicago service provider Pace, achieved the honor of receiving the National Safety Council’s (NSC) "Million Mile" award for 2011. The program rewards safe driving for professionals who have gone 12.5 years without a preventable accident, which the NSC estimates to be equivalent to having driven one million miles.
Twenty Pace drivers are new members of the Million Mile club and five others have reached the two million mile plateau for driving 25 years without a preventable accident.
The 20 Pace operators achieving Million Mile status brings the total of Pace employees achieving these honors to 513. That list includes 71 two million milers and two three million milers.
The 2011 awardees have amassed more than 525 combined years of experience with Pace and the safe driving mileage for which they are recognized totals over 30 million miles — sufficient to circle the Earth more than 1,200 times at its equator.
