Cincinnati Metro (Metro) announced that it has been awarded a $4,077,236 grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Workforce Mobility Partnership Grant program. The grant will help Metro purchase new hybrid-electric buses, expand mobility options for those with disabilities, and fund key initiatives to improve accessibility and sustainability.
"Upgrading and improving every aspect of Metro’s system leads to a more seamless and enjoyable experience for our riders and the community," said Darryl Haley, CEO of Metro. "These funds will allow us to grow our services further and provide enhanced mobility options for our entire region. We are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation."
Metro has already decided how they will divide the funds amongst four upcoming projects.
$2,277,600 will be allocated to replace three diesel-powered transit buses that have reached the end of their useful life. These buses will be replaced with new model year diesel-electric hybrid-powered transit buses, reducing emissions and contributing to a cleaner and greener transportation system.
$1,092,000 will be used to purchase seven MetroNow! On-demand vehicles. These will enhance the flexibility and convenience of the on-demand service as Metro works to roll out four more zone in the coming years.
$381,584 will be used to purchase One-Seat Ride Paratransit equipment, greatly benefiting individuals with disabilities by providing them with a more convenient and efficient transportation option across seven counties.
$326,052 will be allocated towards the One-Seat Ride Paratransit service options.
Haley added, “The success of our Reinventing Metro vision relies on vital support from partners like ODOT, which helps us strengthen connections, boost economic development, and provide more opportunities to improve quality of life.”
