SEARCHOfficials gather for groundbreaking ceremony on city’s $200 million bus rapid transit line.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta will join state and local officials this week for a groundbreaking on the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (GCRTA) bus rapid transit (BRT) project.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, work on the $200 million Euclid Corridor Transportation Project will take four years.
Passengers on the Euclid BRT system will prepay at stations before boarding train-like platforms. The system will also feature exclusive bus rights-of-way and larger buses.
Based on a Federal Transit Administration estimate that considers where people live and where they will travel, use of buses in the corridor will jump 31 percent to 6.4 million riders a year when the line is finished. GCRTA estimates are even higher.
