Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) announced the launch of NextTraffic, a next-generation transportation and traffic management solution using Microsoft’s Azure Cloud. NextTraffic combines CTS’ expertise in transportation payment and information technologies with Microsoft’s leadership in enterprise solutions.

NextTraffic is a flexible and scalable cloud-enabled platform that allows the collection, processing, monitoring, controlling and management of all traffic elements on multiple computer networks in one source. This provides for control of surface transportation and better utilization of roads and networks. NextTraffic supports system-wide data collection, processing and sharing of information to travelers and cities with a modern and flexible solution that can work with the customer’s existing infrastructure and through the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

“This collaboration allows us to utilize the full power of Microsoft technology to improve our solutions today and develop future-proof, scalable solutions for tomorrow,” said Boris Karsch, VP, strategy, Cubic Transportation Systems. “This strategic relationship will be beneficial for both companies as we build on CTS’ expertise in payment and information systems for public transportation and traffic management and Microsoft’s world-leading enterprise solutions.”

“Smart city transportation solutions have the potential to improve traffic patterns, reduce congestion, contribute to economic growth and revolutionize city planning, all while improving the quality of transportation around the city,” said Toni Townes-Whitley, corporate vice president, worldwide public sector for Microsoft. “We’re excited to work with Cubic, a domain expert in its field, to develop new transportation solutions for our customers.”

CTS will launch the first demonstration of NextTraffic at ITS European Congress held in Glasgow, Scotland from June 6 to 9, followed by ITS America 2016, June 12 to 15, in San Jose, Calif.
