DES MOINES, Iowa — The president of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, a nonprofit, was in town to present a certificate of appreciation to the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority for a program that was begun earlier this year that gives refugees living in the area reduced bus fares, according to the Des Moines Register.

The program halves fares for refugees for their first five years in Iowa. Officials for the nonprofit said the program helps refugees feel welcome in the community. For the full story, click here.
