Eno Transportation Foundation honors APTA's Millar

Since becoming president in 1996, Millar has expanded APTA's reach and effectiveness, winning several legislative victories that have substantially increased federal investment in public transportation.

Eno Transportation Foundation honored American Public Transportation Association (APTA) President William Millar, with a lifetime achievement award for his 40 years of service to the public transit industry. The ceremony took place Wednesday during Eno's Leadership Development Conference dinner.

"I am very honored to receive this award," said Millar. "It is particularly meaningful for me, because I believe wholeheartedly in the important mission of the Eno Transportation Foundation to continually improve transportation by focusing on critical policy issues and developing our future leaders."

Since becoming President in 1996, Millar has expanded APTA's reach and effectiveness, winning several legislative victories that have substantially increased federal investment in public transportation. Prior to joining APTA, Millar served 19 years at the Port Authority of Allegheny County, the principal transit operator serving Pittsburgh.

Millar also worked for the Pennsylvania DOT, where he developed and managed Pennsylvania's Free Transit Program for Senior Citizens and led the Penn DOT's rural public and community transit efforts. He began his career as the country transportation planner in Lancaster, Pa. 

Active in many professional organizations, Millar is a past chairman of the Transportation Research Board and the founder of the Transit Cooperative Research Program.
