On Wednesday, Pointe-Claire, Quebec-based Envitech Energy announced that it designed, fabricated, installed and successfully tested two electric traction power substations for use to power Vancouver’s Olympic Line streetcar.
The Olympic Line, officially inaugurated on Jan. 21, 2010, will operate eight hours a day, seven days a week for the duration of the Winter Olympic Games from January 21 to March 21, 2010.
Envitech Energy provides the power that the Olympic Line will need to transport up to 15,000 passengers per day along the mile of upgraded rail infrastructure that connects Granville Island to the Canada Line Olympic Village Station. The number of private vehicles, motorcoaches and transit diesel buses in the area will be drastically reduced, as will overall gas emissions.
Providing a complete line of traction power substations (from high voltage switches to feeders), including a selection of electronic power control devices (Traction Rectifiers, Wayside Energy Storage, Automatic Grounding Switches (AGS), and Automatic Assured Receptivity Units, (AARU), Envitech Energy offers a wide range of streetcar, electric trolleybus and railroad electrification solutions.
