Fla. Gov. gives rail advocates hope
Backers of the proposed Orlando-to-Tampa high-speed rail line fought last week to restore funding rejected by the Governor, asking to divert the money to a regional group. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has given the advocates until Friday to come up with a new plan.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After Gov. Rick Scott rejected $2.4 billion in federal funding for an Orlando-to-Tampa high-speed rail line last week, rail backers fought for a plan to save the deal by diverting the money to some other entity, such as a group of cities or a regional planning group, Bradenton.com reports.
The Governor says he would review a plan that mitigates financial risk to the state. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has given the advocates until Friday to come up with something or he’ll send the money to other states. For the full story, click here.
