FTA awards $1.6M grant to Pa. system for buses
Funds will buy four 35-foot low-floor, heavy-duty, accessible, clean-burning diesel buses to replace four diesel buses that have exceeded their useful lives.
Johnstown, Pa.-based Cambria County Transit Authority (CamTran) received a $1.6 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) that it will use to buy four 35-foot low-floor, heavy-duty, accessible, clean-burning diesel buses to replace four diesel buses that have exceeded their useful lives.
"These new buses will provide better service to bus riders in Johnstown, reduce air pollution and maintenance costs, and increase fuel efficiency," said U.S. DOT Secretary Ray LaHood.
"The people of Johnstown deserve a safe and efficient transit experience and therefore I am pleased to announce this new funding benefitting the town's bus riders," said FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff. "With these more fuel efficient vehicles, we will be reducing greenhouse gasses while cutting fuel costs - a win-win for the environment and taxpayers."
In Fiscal Year 2010, the FTA will provide $10.4 billion in federal funding for transit to states and local communities across the U.S. The funds announced today are part of the FTA's capital investment program that provides financial assistance for buses and bus facilities.
