Greyhound Canada reaches tentative labor accord
Union members are voting on agreement that would end labor stoppage.
Greyhound Canada announced Wednesday that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1374 for a new labor contract.
The agreement is subject to ratification by ATU members. Specific terms of the agreement will not be released until presented to union members. The voting process is expected to be complete by Friday. However, the company's operations will remain suspended in western Canada as the labor disruption by represented employees continues during this time. Pending a positive outcome, regular service would resume shortly thereafter.
"We are pleased that the company and the union were able to resolve the main issues under the contract, and hope that our represented employees will embrace this agreement," said Brad Shephard, senior vice president of Greyhound Canada.
The union represents approximately 1,150 drivers, mechanics, terminal staff and owner/operators, primarily in western Canada.
