SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The State Journal Register reported that Springfield Mayor Mike Houston told U.S. transportation subcommittee representatives that continued state and federal support for city rail consolidation is critical for the city’s economy. A roundtable discussion was held at the Capitol to review the impact of freight and passenger rail transportation in Illinois and to gain information relevant to the rail reauthorization bill.
Houston told the panel that 33 trains currently pass through Springfield each day on three sets of tracks, and that the number is expected to grow to 81 trains by 2030. For the full story, click here.
