INIT receives performance award for Olympic fleet system

INIT Innovations in Transportation, Inc. received the Canadian Urban Transportation Association’s (CUTA) Corporate Recognition Award for the exceptional system performance of its intelligent transportation technology on Translink's buses during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C.

The buses were operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC) a wholly-owned subsidiary of TransLink.

The system that INIT provided to equip over 1,500 of CMBC’s fleet included new on-board computers based on Windows XP-embedded technology, an advanced Computer-Aided Dispatch / Automatic Vehicle Location system (CAD/AVL), next stop announcements and mobile data terminals.

In a follow up order, INIT provided real-time passenger information via on-board and wayside displays along with an interface to the already present Traffic Signal Priority (TSP) system in Vancouver. By using this ITS system, TransLink was able to easily manage the crowds during the Winter Olympics in Vancouver where the daily ridership average reached 60 percent more than normal, according to the company.

The award was given to INIT during CUTA’s Annual Meeting held in Ottawa, Ontario, in mid May.
