Victoria, British Columbia-based BC Transit, along with LaFrance, S.C.-based LaFrance Industries will use a newly designed eco-friendly seating fabric in an upcoming 2009 BC Transit bus procurement.
The development of the seating fabric coincides with the news of BC Transit’s expansion, a result of increased funding announced by the Province earlier this year. The regional service will increase by seven percent.
The planned procurement for 2009 is 115 new buses which will utilize the Repreve, certified fabric from LaFrance. The current BC fleet is 955 buses.
BC Transit has developed a new image for the future bus procurement, reflective of its primary purpose of “Linking Communities, Businesses and Lifestyles.” The pattern design and colors of blue, green and white are symbolic of the image of BC Transit: new, clean, reliable and bright.
Company officials said that this latest contract extension with Metrolinx consolidates the company’s position as the leading private provider of Operations and maintenance services in North America.
