Maine school district likely to have students use public transit

PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland School District will start developing a cost-sharing agreement with Portland Metro, the public bus service, so high school students can use the city's buses for school transportation, WCSH6 News reported.
Starting this fall, the roughly 2,000 students at Portland's three high schools will receive a Metro pass. The transit system will offer students a 75-cent fare, half the ordinary fare. The school district will cover the costs up to about $160,000, according to the report.
School officials said it's hard to tell just how much the school district will save, but it will be substantial, WCSH6 News reported. For the full story, click here.
