BOSTON — The head of the Massachussets Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Transit Police is stepping down after more than 30 years at the transit agency, The Boston Globe reported.
Chief Paul MacMillan started at the Transit Police Department in 1983 and was appointed to chief in 2008, the first to rise through the ranks to lead the department.

When MacMillan started at the transit agency in the 1980s, only about 80 officers patrolled the system, he said. Now, about 250 do. During his tenure, MacMillan spearheaded a public awareness campaign about sexual harassment on the T, in partnership with the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, which served as a model for other major campaigns across the country, according to the report.
